Michiel Cornelissen , The Netherlands

Michiel Cornelissen (1969) is a Dutch product designer. His designs usually have a functional, innovative background, but they tend to have a strong emotional side as well: a surprise, a touch of humor or a nostalgic connotation.
Michiel graduated with honors in Industrial Design Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He worked for over a decade in design, creative direction and strategic functions for Philips Design - the prestigious design studio of Dutch giant Philips Electronics - where he contributed to projects ranging from hospital equipment to children’s products. The work he has done with various teams at Philips Design has been recognized with awards including IF, ID and Red Dot.
Michiel’s own design studio was founded in 2010. Though still working on a wide range of products for various clients, he has also created his own collection of personal accessories and interior objects, which are available through design labels, design stores and through 3d printing company Shapeways.
His recent work, including 36 pencil bowl, Pod à porter and PadFoot has been published in various (design) magazines - as well as in internet publications such as Gizmodo, Wired, Mocoloco, Inhabitat, FastCoDesign and Core77.
Michiel lives and works in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
